Mahshid Farahani, 1403/2024, Saznameh – A study on the identification of Sassanid period instruments, Mahoor Publication, Iran.
“Saznameh – A study on the identification of Sassanid period instruments” is the first musicological study on Sassanid instruments. The author has tried to present a picture of common instruments from written sources and engravings of works of that period that refer to music and to lift the curtain of history from them. The research method used in this book is the analysis of narrative in historical works with a musicological approach. Ancient works and written sources are considered historical narratives and have been analyzed with a musicological approach. The basic core of many recent studies has been only the study of instruments engraved on ancient works of the Sassanid period, and the role of existing writings in this field has been ignored. This book has been able to present a clearer view of Sassanid instruments by putting together ancient engravings and existing writings and analyzing and comparing them.
