Dr. Saloumeh Gholami’s lecture, titled “Preserving What Was Lost: Endangered Languages of Yazd’s Religious Minorities – Zoroastrians and Jews, and Their Vernacular Heritage,” will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 17:00 to 18:00.

A new session of the Cambridge Endangered Languages and Cultures Group will focus on the theme of “Preserving What Was Lost: Endangered Languages of Yazd’s Religious Minorities – Zoroastrians and Jews, and Their Vernacular Heritage.” The event, presented by Professor Saloumeh Gholami from the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge, will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 17:00 to 18:00 in Room GR-04 at the Faculty of English.

Professor Gholami is a British Academy Global Professor in the field of Zoroastrian Studies at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge. She leads the project “Persisting Through Change: A Study of Oral Literature and Cultural Interaction in the Zoroastrian Community” at Cambridge.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cambridge Endangered Languages and Cultures Group hosted a webinar series that drew attention to endangered languages and revitalization efforts. The events engaged academics, language activists, and the global public, attracting hundreds of international attendees. Recordings of the main panel discussions were also made available for audiences.
