Iran in the Sasanian and Islamic Periods: The Great Arch of Mazandaran

An article has been published in the Italian journal Archeologia Viva (“Living Archaeology”) under the supervision of Roberto Dan, focusing on the Grand Arch of the Espahbod Khorshid Cave in Mazandaran and documents discovered in relation to several other arches. The title of the article is “Iran in the Sasanian and Islamic Periods: The Great Arch of Mazandaran.”

This research addresses the archaeological remains along the southern shores of the Caspian Sea, dating from the late Sasanian period to the early Islamic era, particularly in the mountainous regions of the Alborz range in Mazandaran. The main subject concerns the critical transitional period between the Zoroastrian Sasanian Empire and the Islamic conquest of Iran.

The article includes aerial imagery of the Alborz Mountains and the Espahbod Khorshid Cave, archaeological excavations conducted at the site, a distribution map of historical monuments from this period in Mazandaran, and photographs of the author during the excavation process.
